Logan is coming out this Friday and let me tell you all, it is well worth the wait. We saw it this past Friday at the premiere in New York City and the only wrong with the film is that it has to end. Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have been filming the X-Men franchise together for 17 years and it is only fitting that they finish it together. These two have been so brilliant for so many years together and it will be very tough to see any future X-Men films without them, but it was a fitting end to the franchise.
We are going to avoid all spoilers in this short review of the film and save that for our after film podcast. Logan is more about just the end of a great franchise with some fantastic characters, it’s about family. Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Charles (Patrick Stewart) have been like father and son since they first appeared on screen together in the 2000 X-Men film and haven’t looked back in the many films they have been in together since. Add in Laura aka X-23 and the relationship that she has with Logan and the family dynamic shows through not only on-screen but in the script. Director James Mangold who directed The Wolverine and Logan wanted this film to be different in the way that it is character based instead of story based.
The change to the R-rating is much needed and definitely warranted. Fans of Logan from the comics have witnessed it over the years of the films holding back of unleashing the beast that is Logan and the Wolverine. Having the ability of not being held back by the amount of violence that can occur in a PG-13 film as opposed to the R rating. Logan has had animalistic tendencies not only in the comics but in the cartoons, so we are glad that he can finally be the animal that he needs to be.
Logan is an incredible film and I don’t just mean in the world of comic book films. From the setting to the script to the acting, it was all on point and phenomenal. Hugh Jackman has been Logan for 17 years and has not disappointed in any of his performances, it’s only fitting that his final film as Logan is his best. If you are wavering at all at seeing this film, get off your ass and go to the theater and see it, you will not regret that decision. Logan comes out March 3rd in theaters.
