The New England Patriots receiving corps just got a little less potent. The Patriots number one target, Julian Edelman suffered a broken bone in his foot at the end of the first quarter against the New York Giants. Edelman, who was on pace for over 100 catches and 1200+ yards was quarterback Tom Brady’s safety blanket, and with that gone who will he lean on? In today’s game, receiver Danny Amendola stepped up and caught ten balls for 79 yards and came ten yards short of running a punt back for a touchdown, before being tripped up by teammate Duron Harmon. Brady will also have to look upon third year receiver Aaron Dobson and other tight end, Scott Chandler.
With the Patriots well on top of the rest of the AFC in the standings, not having Edelman for a good portion of the remainder of the regular season isn’t going to destroy their playoff hopes. The playoffs are nine weeks away, which is plenty of time for Edelman to cast up his foot and let it heal, especially in the NFL. After losing Dion Lewis in the previous weeks, the Patriots will have to come up with a new scheme for their offense, but that’s not usually a problem for coach Bill Belichick, that’s what he does best.
