The amount of movie trailer announcements this week is unprecedented and absolutely mindblowing. If it were just one or two big releases it would be one thing, but five great trailers for some of the biggest movies over the next year. The trailers of the new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, more or less the two biggest and most anticipated movies being released just days apart is unimaginable. Add three more highly anticipated summer blockbusters and you have a week to remember and have serious nerdgasms over.
Starting first with Marvel’s Ant-Man. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is a thief who is backed by the original Ant-Man to become his predecessor. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) is the original Ant-Man in the comics who tells Lang that he needs his help to steal something, which just so happens to be the Ant suit that Pym created and can shrink a man to the size of an ant. The main villain is Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll) who also is in possession of a shrinking suit. After this trailer, we are believers that it will be a great addition to the MCU and will fuel some more fire to the Marvel Civil War that is coming over the next couple of films. In theaters July 17th, 2015
The Fantastic Four reboot is a franchise that I am not so sure about still. It seems to be another rushed reboot, look at the Amazing Spider-Man films for reference. Like the Spider-man reboots, I am hoping this is better than the original. In this trailer, you get a better visual of what the team will look like and how their powers really come together. The clear site of The Thing and The Human Torch come to full view and we even get a peek at Dr. Doom. The only thing I have an issue about the film ahead of time is the fact that they changed the color of the Human Torch. He’s covered in flame half the time anyway so its irrelevant, I get that, but when his sister Sue Storm (Kate Mara) is white and they have always been the same color in every comic or film or tv show, why the need to change it? Michael B. Jordan is a fine actor and I am sure he will do the role proud, just my opinion. Look for it on August 7th, 2015
I did not see the point of having a fifth Terminator movie, but Genisys intrigues me, especially after this trailer. John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends back Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) to save his mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke). Okay, yes it’s the same premise as the original but with a twist. When Reese goes back in time, the original Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has already been back there to protect Sarah for a decade. John turns out to be a partial cyborg, and the new T-1000 (Byung-hun lee) is hunting them down. Can’t really call it a remake of the original should be a good representation of the series. Arnold will be back in theaters, July 1st, 2015
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice…what can we say about this trailer, it brings more questions then answers. Dawn of Justice is a hint towards the start of the Justice League, which having Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and potentially The Flash and Cyborg as well means it’s a good chance of it. It points to the world second guessing the reasons for Superman (Henry Cavill) being there and going against all beliefs, which is being led by Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) of course. Enter Batman (Ben Affleck) in a metallic suit that can probably fly to go after Superman. Still some questions that need answers, but definitely a movie we can not wait until March 25th, 2016 to see.
Last and certainly not least, the most anticipated trailer of the year, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. This film takes place years after the original trilogy ended. Visually it looks incredible and brings us back to all the worlds that we all knew and loved of the Episodes IV, V and VI . The trailer consists of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) doing a voiceover discussing the force and how it runs rampant thru his bloodline. I can only imagine that he is telling this to his child or relatives. To cap off the great battles that we will see it ends with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) most likely on the Millenium Falcon, with Han saying “ Chewie, we’re home.” December 18th, can not come fast enough and we can’t wait to see more trailers for this film.
Now obviously there are a lot more films coming out this year that we are excited for: Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 but when these five trailers all get released the same week, we have to address it. In this day and age, it is the time of reboots and sequels and they need to be fantastic or the purists of those films and comics will get very upset about it. As more and more info gets released, we will revisit this and make some new assessments of what may come of these films.
