Former New England Patriots Tight End Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of First Degree Murder of Odin Lloyd. Hernandez was also sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole. The jury deliberations took six days, much longer than most thought that they would. He will also have 3-5 years on related gun charges.
Holding back her tears, Lloyd’s mother, Ursula Ward, addressed the court.
“Odin was my only son,” said Ward. “The day I laid my son to rest, I felt like I wanted to go into the hole with my son, Odin.”
“I will never get to have grandchildren from my son,” Ward continued. “I will never get to dance at his wedding. I will never again get to hear him say, ‘Ma, you’re beautiful, I love you.’ ”
“I forgive the hands of the people who had a hand in my son’s murder,” she said. “I pray and hope that someday, other people will forgive them also.”
Hernandez must now endure another trial for a double murder as well. Hernandez had the world on a silver platter, a star in the NFL, and had just signed a huge $40 Million plus contract extension with the New England Patriots not 2 months prior.
